The experience

Shaab Sataya is a big horseshoe reef well offshore in the southern Red Sea. Its sheltered lagoon is a daytime resting place for spinner dolphins, and the reef itself is in noticeably better condition than the sites closer to Hurghada.

Getting there is the trade: a long drive south followed by a boat crossing, which makes this a full day with early start. What you get for it is open-water coral and a genuine chance of dolphins in their own resting ground.

The crew follow the rules that protect resting pods — no chasing, no swimming into the lagoon core. Sightings are never guaranteed. A marine park fee is collected locally in cash.
