The experience

Marsa Mubarak is a wide, shallow bay near Port Ghalib whose seabed carries seagrass rather than coral. That meadow is what brings the animals in: green turtles feed there routinely, and dugongs occasionally.

Snorkelling is gentle — shallow water, no current to speak of, and a guide in the water pointing out where the turtles are working the seagrass. Equipment is provided.

This is a long road day from Hurghada with an early start. Dugong sightings are rare and never guaranteed; turtles are far more reliable. A marine park fee is collected locally in cash.
