The experience

Advanced Open Water is five adventure dives rather than a classroom course. Two are fixed — deep and underwater navigation — and the other three are chosen with your instructor from options such as wreck, night, drift or peak performance buoyancy.

The certification extends your depth limit to 30 metres and, more usefully, gives you supervised practice at the things that actually change with depth and current. Red Sea sites suit several of the elective dives well.

You need a PADI Open Water Diver certification, or a qualifying equivalent, to enrol. Equipment and instruction are included; marine park fees are collected locally.
